Universal Locking Mechanism – The Game Changer in Securing a Valve Box
The patented Universal Locking Mechanism (ULM) from NDS is an innovative design feature that provides ease and flexibility when it comes to securing valve box lids by no longer requiring the use of a traditional nut. Here’s how it works.

The ULM addresses the issue of lost nuts or bolts, or corrosion of metal parts. It enables a variety of bolts and screws to be used to secure the covers-no nuts needed.
This patented feature is available on 10 in. Round Standard Series Valve Boxes (111 and 112 products), select D1200 Boxes, 14X19 in. Standard Series Valve Boxes (113 and 114 products) and 14 x 19 in. NDS Pro-Spec®. It redefines efficiency, convenience, and security with an innovative design. Let us explain.
SIMPLEPatented no-nut design reduces parts, saves time on installation. The device is molded into the box.
DURABLE
Corrosion-proof & UV resistant, the polymer material flexes back into shape.
The tough polymer plastic is the same material as our boxes, and designed to withstand years of use in outdoor conditions.
FLEXIBLE
Works with a wide range of bolts & screws, from fully threaded bolts from fine to coarse.
*** *** ***
The ULM uses a variety of common bolts and screws to secure cover:
14X19 in. Rectangular Standard Series, 14 x 19 in. NDS Pro-Spec® and select D1200:
Bolt diameters from 3/8 in. - ½ in.
Length: 2-1/2 in. min.
10 in. Round Standard Series:
Bolt diameter from 5/16 in. - 3/8 in.
Length: 1-1/2 in. min.
*** *** ***
How does it work?
The Universal Locking Mechanism is not a traditional nut and does not have threads to strip. The design utilizes spring action to keep the bolt in place and flexes back into shape to maintain its structural integrity after each installation.
Can you still secure the cover using the traditional bolt and nut?
Absolutely! Boxes with the ULM also come equipped with a landing slot for a speed nut which provides an alternate way to fasten the cover.
The NDS Universal Locking Mechanism is available now on:
14 X 19 in. Rectangular Standard Series Valve Boxes
14 x19 in. NDS Pro-Spec® Valve Boxes
Select 14 X 19 in. D1200 Meter Boxes
10 in. Round Standard Series Valve Boxes

most rectangular downspouts are fastened flush to the wall/siding making these adapters difficult to connect. They force the drownspout off the wall by 3/4' to 1" which looks ugly, and if the downspouts are strapped already - its pretty much impossible to attach without removing the straps.

does the channel drain need to be sloped to drain ?

    • @oil_can
      @oil_can 22 дні тому

I don’t work for the company producing this video but yes, in my experience, you ideally want the channel drain to slope so the water will start moving downhill the moment it enters the channel. If you are able to attach the final exit pipe to the underside of the channel drain’s tail section so the water can drop downward, a sloping channel drain system is not 100% necessary because even a level-bottom reservoir will eventually drain if you put a hole in the bottom- the same way a bathtub drains when you pull the plug. But a designed-in slope will certainly make a channel drain system more efficient. If your location doesn’t lend itself to installing the channel drain on a slant, you might want to look at a pre-sloped channel drain system like the Dura Slope made by NDS. It’s sold in 4-ft sections that snap together, with each section manufactured to be deeper than the last. For instance, the shallowest 4-ft-long section is 4” deep on one end and 4.5” deep on the other end. Then that connects to a section that’s 4.5” deep on one end and 5” on the other, and so on until it gets to a section that’s 12” deep, should you need to go that far. The idea is that the top of the channel is level throughout its length while the bottom gets deeper and deeper until it reaches the exit pipe. It’s commercial grade and crazy expensive if you need to a channel drain longer than 12 feet or so but it is nonetheless a brilliant solution to this kind of problem.

This looks interesting but I am strongly concerned about cave-in over time. How much structural load / weight is this FloWell rated for? It seems like the plastic could get brittle with time eventually until one day it collapses when someone is walking (or riding a mower) over it.

    • @Dooblecaine
      @Dooblecaine 21 день тому

@@jasonhilton-ft3iz But do you work for NDS ? Everything decays. Esp in the ground with a substantial water source. I suspect there could be an issue over time though as sheer force where the cover meets the top of the side will be substantial when say a person on a riding mower moves over it. That coupled with the product's aging over time could spell disaster, which is my concern. Plastics tend to get brittle over time too...

Should the inner 3” pipe hub be knocked out of using 4” corrugated pipe? Since the 3” pipe hub goes into the 4” pipe doesn’t it prevent any water leakage? If removed can’t water get outside the outside edges of the 4” pipe before it gets into the tube so there will be leakage? Why doesn’t HD or Lowe’s or Amazon carry the Spee D catch basin riser?

Do they make any version of these adapters that fit INSIDE of the pipe (vs. slipping over it)? I would rather not glue the adapter to the pipe in order to do maintenance/cleaning of the pipe, but also can see water leaking out from the sides without the adapter being glued to the pipe.

Have you ever heard of the contractor letting the end of the drainage system lead to underground the driveway? I never heard of that, but he said it would be risky to have it lead out of the retaining wall towards the house (approx 35 + feet away) I’m trying to figure out if he half assed it or if that is plausible ? Please help! Thanks!!

Need a little more context to the situation. Are you saying it was piped under the driveway and out at a better location on the other side of the driveway? Ask the contractor what kind of pipe they used. If it’s that black flexible pipe or sched 20 pvc I’d advice them to remove and replace with schedule 40pvc so it doesn’t collapse and be worthless

This video is just an ad to sell extra, expensive parts that aren't needed. Why would you even use a catch basin for this application? These basins have their uses, but not in this application and especially so close to the house. Connect the down spout directly into the pipe. The pop up emitter is just a piece of garbage that has absolutely no good use anywhere. Leave the discharge end open. Why worry about animals getting in? Rain will chase them away just like it chases birds that nest in your gutters. I live across from a river and have open ended discharges for over 25 years and never had a problem with animals. Much better videos on UA-cam on this subject.
